The Bachelor’s Educational and Professional Programme “Management” is delivered by the State University of Trade and Economics through its separate structural unit, the Kharkiv Trade and Economics Professional College. It is a first-cycle higher education programme leading to the qualification “Bachelor of Management” within the field D “Business, Administration and Law” and the specialty D3 “Management”. The programme is designed in accordance with the national higher education standard approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Order No. 1165 of 29 October 2018) and corresponds to Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework of Ukraine, Level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning, and the first cycle of the Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area. The programme awards a single Bachelor’s diploma and comprises 240 ECTS credits, with a normative duration of 3 years and 10 months. Instruction is provided in Ukrainian, there are no restrictions regarding the mode of study, and the programme remains valid until the next scheduled revision. Admission is available to applicants who hold complete general secondary education, a junior specialist qualification, professional pre-higher education, or prior higher education. At the same time, it is important to note that this particular programme is currently not accredited.

The central purpose of the programme is to educate specialists who combine conceptual scientific foundations with strong practical competence in management and who can address complex, cross-functional managerial tasks in conditions of uncertainty. This objective is implemented through a curriculum that equips students to understand how organisations operate, how managerial decisions are formed, and how leadership and coordination are achieved across different functions and levels. Rather than focusing on one sector only, the programme provides a broad managerial profile that supports employment in diverse organisational contexts, including administrative, personnel, operational, and office-based environments, while maintaining a consistent grounding in core management theory and modern organisational practice.

The programme’s subject area is the management of organisations and their structural units. Students develop the ability to define and describe organisational characteristics, assess organisational performance by connecting results with internal and external factors, and identify development prospects. A key element is the understanding of functional areas of an organisation and the links between them, which allows future managers to integrate planning, coordination, communication, motivation, and control into a coherent managerial process. The theoretical content covers the paradigms, principles, historical foundations, and major schools of management thought, and systematically introduces contemporary approaches such as systemic, situational, adaptive, anticipatory, crisis, innovative, and project management. In parallel, the programme gives sustained attention to leadership concepts and behavioural skills, ensuring that graduates can not only analyse organisational issues, but also mobilise teams, maintain resilience, and lead responsible change.

Methodologically, the programme relies on both general scientific and specialised research methods, including calculation and analytical techniques, economic and statistical tools, economic and mathematical methods, expert assessment, fact-based and sociological approaches, documentary analysis, and balance methods. Students learn to apply practical methods for implementing the core functions of management, including marketing research tools, economic diagnostics, forecasting and planning techniques, organisational structure design methods, motivational instruments, control mechanisms, and approaches to evaluating organisational, social, and economic effectiveness. In decision-making, students are introduced to established technologies such as economic analysis, simulation modelling, and decision-tree logic, while also mastering administrative, economic, socio-psychological, and technological methods of managerial influence. This methodological diversity is supported by modern information and communication equipment, management-oriented information systems, and professional software products used in contemporary organisational practice.

Teaching and learning are organised through a balanced combination of classroom and independent study, built on problem-oriented and interactive approaches and supported, where appropriate, by distance learning technologies. The educational process is student-centred and emphasises active learning through testing, practical tasks, situational exercises, case studies, discussions, public speaking, and academic writing. Assessment includes examinations, pass-fail credits, oral presentations, continuous evaluation, and final attestation in the form of a public defence of a qualification thesis. The thesis must address a complex specialised task or a practical management problem under conditions of complexity and uncertainty, using theories and methods of economic science. Academic integrity is a binding requirement: plagiarism, falsification, and unauthorised copying are prohibited, and the defended thesis is published on the official college website.

A distinctive feature of the programme is its dynamic, integrative, and interactive design, including the systematic enrichment of formal coursework with knowledge gained through non-formal education. Students are encouraged to strengthen each discipline through relevant online courses, supporting flexibility and lifelong learning habits. Another strong component is the enhanced study of professional English, enabling graduates to communicate in international contexts and to access contemporary managerial knowledge and tools. The programme also prioritises adaptability to labour market transformation through active engagement with employers and other stakeholders. Practical training is embedded through targeted modules on professional safety and on cloud technologies and digital business communications, as well as industrial and pre-graduation practice. Professional competencies are further strengthened through training in an educational and production centre for modelling and business simulations, where students can practise managerial decision-making in realistic settings.

Graduates of the programme are prepared for employment in positions aligned with the National Classifier of Occupations of Ukraine, including supply and sales organisers, administrative assistants, HR inspectors, personnel organisers, recruitment specialists, and assistant managers in enterprises and organisational units. At the same time, the programme provides a clear pathway for further education, enabling graduates to continue to the second (Master’s) cycle of higher education and to obtain additional qualifications through postgraduate education and professional development opportunities.
