The educational programme “Financial Business Management” is designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge, advanced skills, and professional competencies essential for solving complex specialised tasks and practical problems that arise within the non-bank financial services sector. The programme focuses on developing the ability to manage financial business processes effectively, despite the uncertainty and dynamic nature of modern financial markets.
At its core, the programme belongs to the subject area of finance and concentrates on the structure, principles, and mechanisms of functioning and development of financial systems, with particular emphasis on entities operating within the non-bank financial services market. Its overarching goal is to train specialists able to conduct research, introduce innovations, and solve complex professional challenges in finance, banking, and insurance. The theoretical foundation includes key concepts, categories, and theories of financial science that explain the regularities and trends governing financial, banking, and insurance activities. Students master modern methods, techniques, and technologies of financial science and practice, acquiring proficiency in analytical software systems and tools necessary for the professional management of financial institutions.
The programme has an educational, professional, and research-oriented focus, preparing modern, proactive specialists capable of quickly adapting to transformations in the economic environment. Graduates learn to modify and optimise the activities of non-bank financial institutions within the broader context of financial business management. The curriculum integrates practical, applied training with research, offering a comprehensive understanding of the financial services market, financial management, investments, asset management, financial intermediation, risk management, ethical standards, and investment behaviour.
Among the programme’s distinctive features are bilingual instruction (Ukrainian and English in designated groups), a strong emphasis on independent academic and research work, and the integration of practical training within non-bank financial institutions. This ensures that students understand the unique challenges and operational specifics of financial business management in the non-banking sector.
Graduates are well-prepared for employment in a wide range of organizations, including leasing, insurance, investment, and factoring companies, pawnshops, credit unions, and asset management companies. According to the National Classifier of Professions of Ukraine (DK 003:2010), they may occupy managerial positions in financial intermediation, leasing, credit provision, insurance, pension insurance, and auxiliary financial services. They may also work as financial analysts, investment professionals, specialists in financial and economic security, university teachers, or brokers and dealers in financial markets. In accordance with the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), graduates are qualified to work as managers, managing directors, finance managers, policy and planning managers, research and development managers, financial and insurance branch managers, financial professionals, auditors, consultants in asset and liability management, financial analysts, and other related roles. They may further pursue doctoral studies (Doctor of Philosophy) or obtain additional postgraduate qualifications.
Teaching and learning are based on a problem-oriented, student-centred approach that incorporates modern educational technologies. The programme combines lectures with practical classes, case studies, business games, training sessions, internships, and substantial independent work. These methods develop creativity, analytical thinking, and practical skills necessary for the preparation and defence of qualification work. Assessment follows the university’s regulations and includes current and final evaluations, as well as certification examinations. Students’ achievements are measured on a 100-point scale, where 60–100 points confirm successful completion and entitlement to ECTS credits.
The programme develops a wide range of competencies. General competencies include abstract thinking, foreign-language communication, research skills, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal and leadership abilities, international cooperation, and ethical behaviour. Professional competencies encompass the ability to analyse financial systems, diagnose and model financial activities, apply managerial and analytical tools, utilise interdisciplinary approaches, interpret financial and research data, implement innovations, design information systems, and assess risks and investment characteristics of financial instruments across domestic and global markets. Students also learn to justify asset management decisions for institutional investors and apply theoretical and methodological tools for efficient financial business management.
Correspondingly, Programme Learning Outcomes ensure graduates can apply the fundamental laws and methodologies of financial science; adapt research approaches to practical tasks; analyse financial information; communicate effectively in a foreign language; present and discuss research findings; resolve ethical dilemmas; use innovative methods in finance, banking, and insurance; manage financial activities; diagnose and model financial processes; make informed decisions; evaluate financial risks; forecast investment characteristics; and substantiate management decisions in asset management and insurance.
The implementation of the programme is supported by highly qualified academic staff of the State University of Trade and Economics, all holding scientific degrees and/or academic titles. They possess extensive professional expertise in financial business management and regularly enhance their qualifications through internships, including international placements. Practitioners and foreign specialists may also participate in teaching. The university’s material and technical resources fully meet educational requirements and include modern computer laboratories, classrooms equipped with interactive technologies, stable internet access, and advanced digital platforms such as MIA: Education, the Distance Learning System of SUTE, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other communication tools.
Comprehensive information and methodological support is ensured through the development of an ECTS Information Package and access to personal academic accounts via the ACS “MIA: Education,” where students can track their individual plans, curricula, acquired points, schedules, and communication channels with instructors. Educational programmes, syllabi, and assessment criteria are readily accessible, supporting transparent and effective learning.
Overall, the “Financial Business Management” programme offers an integrated educational experience that combines practical orientation with research excellence. It prepares specialists capable of managing financial business processes in a competitive, dynamic, and risk-intensive environment, ensuring their readiness for professional growth and significant contributions to the financial services sector.
