The History Department aims to provide students with the skills and equipment to examine the subjects of history within a discipline by teaching them the principles of history. Accordingly, it is aimed to create a curriculum content that will convey the different stages of Turkish and World history and the dynamics affecting them to students and to keep this program up-to-date every semester. The main duty of the History Department is to keep the history and history aspects of the students studying in the department strong as a result of the courses they take and to guide them in forming their own world of ideas. History is the memory of a nation. Turkish history is also the main source of this memory for the Turkish nation. The responsibility of the History Departments is to keep this honorable memory alive and to transfer this memory to our nation. Instilling this sense of responsibility in our students is one of our basic duties.
In this context, the History Department of Namık Kemal University was one of the first departments established in 2007 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Our department is one of the rapidly growing departments of our faculty with its expert faculty members in the field. Our education program focuses on many different periods and allows our students to work in different fields.
The academic studies conducted by the academic staff of the History Department of Namık Kemal University aim to contribute scientifically to the unearthing of unknown points in Turkish and World History. In this context, academic studies are carried out in the six main branches of the Department (Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, Modern History, Turkish Republic History, General Turkish History).
Our department first started accepting students in the 2012-2013 academic year. Our students who will graduate at the end of four years will have the opportunity to work in the following fields:
1. Academic career in History Departments
2. History Teaching
3. State and Institutional Archives
4. General Directorate of Foundations
5. Ministry of Culture
