Our department aims to contribute to the sociological perspective and knowledge base in Turkey by utilizing the fundamental approaches and methods of sociology, as well as sociological knowledge produced in Turkey and internationally. Our department aims to create an academic field of activity that is flexible in scope and of a quality commensurate with national and international standards of competence.
It is expected that our students will gain the ability to explain, understand, and interpret social processes that appear ordinary and “natural” in everyday life from a much broader and more competent perspective and develop a “sociological imagination” during their four-year education.
Our department will discuss the founding figures of sociology and contemporary social theorists within the framework of their biographies, works, fundamental ideas, and concepts. At the same time, it will produce sociological knowledge that can contribute to the sociological analysis of social processes, stagnation and change, continuity and discontinuity in relation to fields such as education, culture, politics, religion, history, media, and psychology. It is clear that conducting the sociology of contemporary Turkish society will empower our country and society to understand the processes of change and transformation in a healthier way.
To this end, our department began accepting students in the 2013-2014 academic year. The language of instruction is Turkish.
