Established in 1996 under the Faculty of Engineering at Trakya University in Çorlu with a graduate program, our department began admitting undergraduate students in the 2003–2004 academic year. In 2006, it became affiliated with Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University. Currently, our department provides education to 744 undergraduate and 70 graduate students, with a staff consisting of 10 faculty members and 3 research assistants. Comprising five divisions—Thermodynamics, Mechanics, Theory and Dynamics of Machines, Design and Manufacturing, and Energy—our department offers a strong academic foundation aligned with contemporary requirements.
Through its research laboratories, the department enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. Moreover, our department stands out among other Mechanical Engineering departments in Turkey with the implementation of Workplace-Based Education (IME). Thanks to IME, senior-year students have the opportunity to work in a factory three days a week during their eighth semester. The presence of numerous industrial companies in the vicinity of our campus allows students to gain practical experience in R&D and manufacturing processes related to their fields of interest during their final year of study.
