Food production is one of humanity's oldest professions. As societies become more technological and sophisticated, the demand for food grows in urban environments. This need to produce food efficiently gave rise to agronomy:
Humans will always have to eat, so the demand for basic foodstuffs will always be present. International markets are increasingly demanding specialty or niche products, and our country has an advantageous geographic location for access to the East Coast of the United States and Europe.
The Dominican Republic has a strong agricultural vocation, given its diverse climate, rich soils, and abundant water. Agronomy allows professionals to become independent and establish their own agricultural business. It allows for continuing specialized studies in a large number of academic institutions around the world. The diversity of scenarios encountered by agronomists in the field is challenging and stimulating for advanced professionals. Agronomists typically work in teams with professionals in sociology, strategic planning, and civil engineering. Agronomy provides acceptable economic stability and a good lifestyle.
