In this program students are assigned to a faculty advisor in the biological sciences at the summer New Student Orientation in the summer preceding the freshman year. Depending on degree and career choices, students may opt to keep the same advisor, or change at the start of junior year to reflect a specific interest. In this program students must maintain a GPA of 3.00 to take Honors courses and remain in the Honors Program. All Honors Program students will be reviewed yearly. Any Honors students falling below a 3.00 GPA at the end of any year of study will be contacted and removed from the Honors Program. They are also required to complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree. The biological sciences curriculum helps students develop an understanding of principles governing biological processes that span a continuum from molecules and cells to organisms and ecosystems. In addition to conveying fundamental scientific knowledge, our curriculum aims: to provide opportunities for students to understand and use the process of scientific inquiry; to promote development of students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills; to help students gain the background essential for making informed decisions about issues that relate to science, technology, and the environment.
