One element involves understanding and addressing social issues, such as family life, crime, education, war and peace, homelessness, poverty, immigration, and substance abuse. Another element involves studying the structure of societies, groups, organizations, and social institutions and how people interact in these settings. Sociology teaches a distinctive way of looking at the social world and offers unique insights into social behavior through research and other opportunities.
