Art Conservators promote the long-term preservation of artistic and cultural artifacts. We analyze and document condition and materials, manage collections, and carryout materials research as well as perform treatments. Conservation is an interdisciplinary field involving the sciences (including chemistry, and materials technology), art history, archaeology, anthropology, and studio art. Conservators also have special skills in design, fabrication, crafts, and the fine arts. Career paths: Our country’s museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural institutions, as well as individual collectors, rely on trained conservators and collection managers to care for their collections. This work ensures that these cultural resources are given the finest possible care and are available for the education, scholarship, advancement, and enrichment of future generations.
