The programme aims to produce professionally competent, reflective and analytical social work practitioners who are able to practice in a variety of settings, with a range of service users, in accordance with national occupational standards and expectations identified in the code of practice for social care workers; the programme is designed for postgraduates who wish to become registered social work practitioners and provides the flexibility for students to choose a special area of interest in the 2nd year (children and families, adults and community care or mental health); 1st year includes learning about social policy and social divisions, law and ethical conduct, the life course, communication skills and the needs of different service user groups; students undertake 100 days of practice placements; 2nd year students learn about research methods, theories of social work intervention, working across organisational boundaries, and choose a particular area of interest for in-depth learning; European computer driving licence (ECDL) is completed in this year; there is a further 100 days of practice placements.
