The MSci Genetics course will enable students to achieve an integrated master's degree while they study for a BSc. Students will discover the principles of heredity and evolution and learn how we can map genes, and understand their function. Students will also consider how the development of multi-cellular organisms can progress from a single cell through regulated courses of gene expression, and learn the detailed mechanisms by which genes can be switched on and off. The first year consists of compulsory units including biochemistry and cell biology, providing a basis for specialisation in their second and third years. In Year 4, students will undertake a major research project in one of the University's more than 200 research labs to achieve their undergraduate master's award.
