The course is active in many areas of physics research (both theoretical and experimental); detector development and e-science; theorists work on a wide range of particle physics phenomena, from supersymmetry and extra dimensions through to strong interactions and the early Universe; experimenters are currently involved in many international projects, including the BABAR matter-antimatter experiment in San Francisco; and the future ATLAS experiment at the LHC currently under construction at CERN, Geneva. A research project is undertaken under the supervision of a staff member throughout the year together with lectures. Full time is spent working on the project unless attending lectures. A dissertation will be submitted at the year-end.
