MCh Orthopaedics provides postgraduate training for doctors specialising in orthopaedics and is delivered with support from consultant orthopaedic surgeons. Students of this course will develop an understanding of the principles and clinical concepts underpinning contemporary orthopaedic surgery and perform evidence-based practice and research within the specialist field of trauma and orthopaedics. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, practical activities, clinical simulation, computer lab work and group work. Assessment methods include written report, computer-based statistics exam, statistics mini project, research proposal, written exam, oral exam and dissertation thesis and research article.

Admission criteria: part-time route

  • medical degree (MBBS and MRCS or equivalent postgraduate degree such as MS or DNB)
  • working within orthopaedics speciality at or above F2/SHO/ST3 or equivalent
  • GMC registration
  • international/overseas applicants must have been offered employment in the UK through the Medical Training Initiative and have IELTS 7 or above before applying
  • admission will be dependent on successful interview.

Admission criteria: full-time route

  • medical degree (MBBS and MRCS or equivalent postgraduate degrees such as MS or DNB)
  • recent work experience within orthopaedics speciality
  • international/overseas applicants must have IELTS 7 or above
  • admission will be dependent on successful interview.

All offers for the full-time route will also be subject to:

  • a successful health workplace risk assessment
  • a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure.
