In the last decade, we have seen the surge of intelligence being used in information engineering for a wide range of domains, such as smart city, advanced manufacturing, automatic driving, 5G and Internet of things, virtual reality and augmented reality, etc. The major in Intelligent Information Engineering builds on foundations in mathematics, electrical engineering and basic computer and software engineering principles, and focuses on teaching students the latest technologies in information engineering such as machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), video and speech recognition, multimedia and sensory signal processing, etc. The new major aims to offer a comprehensive program with state-of-the-art intelligent information engineering technologies. The courses offered span in three key areas: telecommunication, electrical and electronic engineering, and computer and software engineering, with an emphasis on intelligent information processing technologies.

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have: an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification or an Australian bachelor's degree in a non-Engineering discipline with a 65 percent average, with studies equivalent to 48 credit points (equivalent to 1 year full time study load) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, computing or statistics, as related to the stream sought for admission.
