We live in an increasingly dynamic world with divisions between rich and poor, citizens and refugees, men and women, East and West, black and white, Christian and Muslim – the list is endless. These divisions structure the web of our social relationships. Sociologists are interested in exploring these relationships, how they become institutionalised, and the many tensions that arise from them. The Sociology major focuses on the dynamics of these social relationships and the processes of social change in contemporary societies. You’ll learn to differentiate between disciplinary approaches, concepts and methods in the study of the humanities; as well as how to recognise and advocate for the role of the humanities in society. You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from a range of electives in areas such as cultural heritage, public history, social media, and psychological science.
