Biodiversity is essential for functioning ecosystems, human wellbeing and sustainable futures. Yet species loss, habitat degradation and accelerating environmental change are placing unprecedented pressure on ecological systems worldwide. Addressing these challenges requires a deep understanding of how biodiversity is generated, how ecosystems function, and how conservation strategies can be designed and evaluated across ecological and social contexts.

The Biodiversity and Conservation major will build your capabilities in ecology, evolutionary biology and conservation science. You’ll develop expertise in species identification, biodiversity monitoring, ecological surveying and data analysis, while exploring the evolutionary processes and environmental drivers that shape biodiversity locally and globally. Drawing on scientific, cultural and ethical perspectives, you’ll practice integrating evidence with social and cultural considerations to design conservation actions that protect biodiversity. With your learning grounded in research-led teaching and extensive field and lab work, you’ll engage with contemporary environmental research and apply it in real-world contexts throughout your degree.
