In an effort to strengthen the combination of clinical, educational and research programs, the Institute of Gerontology at National Cheng Kung University brings together scholars of geriatrics and gerontology as well as other related science and work as a multidisciplinary team for promoting successful aging in education, research and service. As the first and only graduate institute of gerontology in Taiwan, the Institute faces several major challenges that include the advancement of academic knowledge in research and training in geriatrics and gerontology. The main goals of the Institute include the followings: Providing students with a gerontology specialization training with theory and practical skills; Developing a leadership vision with an integrated view on issues related to aging; Nurturing an independent study ability to observe and adapt social change in Taiwan; Creating an enthusiasm for social and human services; and Promoting a global perspective and international cooperation.

Applicants should have basic Chinese skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Applicants are required to provide a Chinese proficiency certificate (TOCFL or New HSK or relevant Chinese language certificate). Priority goes to the applicants with Chinese lesson credits or a certificate of Chinese Proficiency test. The English proficiency certificate is not required for applicants whose previous degree is from an English-speaking country (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa or the United States of America), but the applicants have to provide their diplomas as proof. Applicants are also required to provide an autobiography in Chinese and English. All new students are REQUIRED to have a health check-up for university enrollment.
