The research and development of new materials plays a very important role in the upgrading of high-tech industries and traditional industries, and materials science and engineering combines physics, chemistry and mathematics and other "science" fields, and is applied to "engineering" such as electrical machinery, machinery, chemicals, energy, and the environment. The purpose of establishment is to cultivate professional elites in various material design, production and research and development. Most of the graduates of this department continue to study in graduate schools, while others go abroad for further study or directly into the workplace.

Applicants should have basic Chinese skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Applicants are required to provide Chinese proficiency certificate (TOCFL or New HSK or relevant Chinese language certificate). The English proficiency certificate is not required for applicants whose previous degree is from an English-speaking country (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa or the United States of America) but the applicants have to provide their diplomas as proof. All new students are REQUIRED to have a health check-up for university enrollment.
