About Université of Jijel - Mohammed Seddik BENYAHIA
In its evolution, the University of Jijel has gone through several
stages of restructuring. The first of its history dates back to 1986
when it was created as an appendix to the University of Constantine
following decision No. 72 of 21/03/1986 of the Ministry of Higher
Education and Scientific Research.
By executive decree N ° 62/88 of 22 March 1988, the annex was
transformed into a Higher Normal School (ENS) whose main mission is to
train trainers in basic sciences, bachelor's degree in mathematics,
physics and chemistry
In 1993, and in the face of the continuous evolution of the number of
students wishing to enroll in the school, it was joined by the latter
the institute of higher technicians in public works which included a
capacity of 400 teaching places.
In July 1998, after the extension of the training areas, the reception
of educational infrastructures such as the institute of metallurgy and
the acquisition of new scientific equipment, the ENS was dissolved and
replaced by a university center under the decree. Executive N ° 221/98
of 27/07/1998 bringing together four institutes: the Institute of
Technology, Computer Science, Biology and Exact Sciences.
The university center became the University of Jijel by Presidential
Decree No. 03-258 dated 22 July 2003, created as a public administrative
institution with legal personality and financial autonomy, comprising
seven faculties:
- Faculty of Exact Sciences and Computer Science
- Faculty of Science of Nature and Life
- Faculty of Science and Technology
- Faculty of Law and Political Science
- Faculty of Economics, Business and Management Sciences
- Faculty of literature and Languages
- Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

- The training of the cadres necessary for the economic, social and cultural development of the country.
- The initiation of students to research methods and the promotion of training.
- Contribution to the production and widespread dissemination of knowledge.
