Training aims

the metallurgy license crowns a training spanning six semesters. The first two semesters represent the common foundation of the Science and Technology field, followed by two semesters in the metallurgy sector. These first four semesters are based on fundamental training in sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, mechanics and some metallurgy subjects. The last two semesters include subjects that constitute the essential basic knowledge for any metallurgist.

This license being of a professional type, it offers a course allowing students to acquire basic knowledge which will allow them either to pursue studies in a professional master's degree in different metallurgy options, or to integrate into the world of industry. in different fields such as iron and steel, foundry, mechanical engineering, automotive industry, shipbuilding, building materials…

This professional training is based on laboratories at the University of Jijel as well as a Technological Hall covering a very wide range of methods and techniques useful for a good training of students. Correlatively to the training of students at the university level, internships, Tps and professional visits will be scheduled at the level of the Algerian Qatari Steel Company (AQS) to improve the quality of training in this professional license.

Target profiles and skills

At the end of his training, the student is supposed to have assimilated and mastered the basic notions in metallurgy such as phase transformations, the physico-chemistry of metal production, their structures and characteristics, their heat treatments, their shaping, their degradation and the means of their protection.

He must, among other things, be able to:

  • To identify any metal according to its destination; develop it, shape it and process it.

  • Characterize a metal or an alloy and assign it an identity (shade).

  • To model a process in the steel industry

  • To approach a preliminary project and analyze a problem in the field of metallurgy

  • To recommend one metal over another for a specific use.

At local and regional level, the training offered will also allow candidates who complete their course to consider direct integration into the world of work within technical production teams, or quality control laboratories, or technical offices. (methods) of the different companies.

Regional and national employability potential

The establishment of the Algerian Qatari Steel steel complex at the level of the Balara industrial zone (El-Milia), having strongly reinforced the existing industrial fabric at the level of the wilaya of jijel, justified the opening of this license. This fabric consists of:

  • The Algerian QtariSteel - Bellara – El Milia – Jijel steel complex

    FROM AFRICAVER - Taher - Jijel;

  • Brickworks – Taher - Jijel

  • From SONATRACH (Unit of Skikda, Bejaia, Algiers, Hassi-Rmel and Hassi-Messaoud ……)

  • SONACOME (industrial vehicle production company);

  • From PMA (Agricultural Machinery Production Company);

  • Military industry;

  • From Somemi, (Taher - Jijel)

Gateways to other specialties

The Metallurgy license allows access to training for a master's degree in Metallurgy, of course, and a master's degree in Process Engineering, option: Materials Process Engineering.

Performance indicators expected from the training

IN order to ensure the quality of the training, in addition to conventional courses and tutorials, the following methods and means are provided:

• Multimedia means and techniques are planned to ensure the transmission of the educational message (PowerPoint presentations by video projector supported by handouts).

• Practical work for almost all teaching units is planned.

• The personal work of the student being a major factor in the success of the training, the assessment of skills partly carried out through presentations and mini-projects.

• Outings are also planned to consolidate the theoretical knowledge of the students.
