Goals

The evolution and development of humanity has been closely linked to our use of energy. A
sustainable energy supply is of vital importance for political stability and the continued
development of the economy as our modern society becomes increasingly dependent on energy.
Even with the levelized cost of energy for renewable energy sources approaching or exceeding
that of fossil fuels, their intermittent nature remains a challenge to widespread adoption in the
global energy mix. With this in mind, the task of developing new energy storage systems is more
urgent than ever. For years, batteries have been known for their excellence in chemical energy
conversion and storage. Zinc-air batteries feature an open-cell structure, in which oxygen can be
breathed in from the ambient atmosphere through the active cathode material. The realization of
electrically rechargeable zinc-air batteries relies heavily on air (oxygen) electrodes which are bi-
functionally active and durable, so that they withstand the harsh conditions of repetitive
discharge and charging in alkaline electrolytes. One of the most important issues hampering the
development of zinc-air batteries is the kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at the
cathode (air electrodes) and which will be one of the most important part of this doctoral
training.

Evaluation method

In this doctoral training, the assessment is based on the skills required during this training and
which will be assessed by the doctoral student's supervisor himself.
The doctoral student must first carry out training in various subjects called "Courses to
strengthen foreign language skills, Introductory courses in didactics and pedagogy, Courses in
ICT and Specialty reinforcement courses in relation with doctoral training.

Opportunities

The three sectors; Energy, Agri-food and Health can benefit from this training since the
objectives mentioned are based on the preparation of new materials that can be used in these
three sectors (Materials for energy, Materials for the food industry, material in health).

Scholarships

Selecting the right scholarship can be a daunting process. With countless options available, students often find themselves overwhelmed and confused. The decision can be especially stressful for those facing financial constraints or pursuing specific academic or career goals.

To help students navigate this challenging process, we recommend the following articles:
