Training aims

The Geotechnical Master's aims to train high-level specialists in all fields relating to geotechnics, and able to carry out the mission of the geotechnical engineer, covering the following points:

- Earthworks: feasibility, reuse of materials, holding of embankments and walls of excavations;

- Hydrogeology: influence of an aquifer on the execution of the work and on the design of the structure (drainage, casing of a basement), aggressiveness of the water vis-à-vis the concrete;

- The foundations: definitions of the types of foundations to be considered and admissible constraints to be retained, evaluation of foreseeable earthworks;

- The impact on the environment: stability of the slopes and neighboring buildings, nuisances related to the works (dynamic compaction and drawdown of the water table, injection, etc.);

- Natural risks: detection of natural or anthropic cavities, general stability of the site, seismicity.

Valuation method

This training is intended for students who have already graduated in one of the following specialties: Civil engineering (any option) or hydraulics (after study of the file) or public works (after study of the file) and any other specialty is justified by an equivalent course in terms of educational content and this after approval by the scientific committee of the department. The acquisition of knowledge is assessed by regular continuous monitoring and practical tests as well as a final exam. There will be one exam session per semester followed by a remedial session for each semester. The course is sanctioned by a master's thesis of initiation to research.

Opportunities for training

- Building contractors

- Design offices

- Technical control centers

- Public works

- Administration and others

- Technical education

- Expertise and consultancy.

- Judicial expertise.

- Follow-up of construction sites: B.T.P of medium and large scales.
