Major-Field Requirements: To earn a major in Linguistics, students must take at least 35 credits distributed as follows: I. LESSCOMMONLY TAUGHT LANGUAGE (4 CREDITS) : In addition to the university foreign language requirement, LIN majors will take one extra course at the 100-level in a less commonly taught language such as Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Slovenian, Serbian, or any other language available and upon the recommendation of the Director of Linguistics.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have Cumulative secondary school GPA equivalent to a 2.3 on the US grading scale for most programs.  Other English language Requirements: TOEFL paper-based exam: 525; Successful completion of CSU's IELP (Intensive English Language Program) Advanced Level, with a grade of 80% or better and passing COMPASS ESL scores. Completion of English language studies (Level 112) from any of the ELS Language Centers. Achieve a score of C (Pass) or better on the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
