Major-Field Requirements: All Theatre Arts majors are required to successfully complete a minimumof 54 credit hours consisting of the core curriculum (13 courses) and one specialization track (6 courses). Core Curriculum-All Tracks (Thirteen Courses): THE 101 - Scenic Studio Practicum (6 credits total between THE 101, 102, 103), THE 102 - Main Stage Production Practicum (6 credits total between THE 101, 102, 103), THE 103 - Departmental Practicum (6 credits total between THE 101, 102, 103), THE 111 - Introduction to Theatre, THE 200 - Principles of Technical Theatre, THE 201 - Script Analysis, THE 211 - History of The Theatre I, THE 212 - History of the Theatre II, THE 213 - History of the Theatre III, THE 225 - Principles of Acting, THE 331 - Principles of Directing, THE 381 - Theatre Organization And Management, THE 491 - Senior Project: SPECIALIZATION TRACKS: 1. ACTING TRACK: The acting track focuses on acting skills while emphasizing the relation of acting to the ancillary disciplines that directly affect the actor. An actor should know and understand the work of the director and the various designers and artisans of the technical theatre in order to meet the challenges of a professional career or graduate education. THE 325 - Intermediate Acting, THE 327 - Voice and Speech for the Actor, THE 328 - Movement for the Actor, THE 424 - Audition Skills, THE 425 - Advanced Acting, DAN studio dance, elective (a total of 3 credits): 2. DIRECTING TRACK: The successful director is one who is able to make informed decisions about every aspect of production from acting and design to movement and staging. The emphasis on directing courses augments a broad range of necessary skills courses needed to pursue an academic or professional career. THE 300 - Stage Management, THE 325 - Intermediate Acting, THE 332 - Advanced Directing, ENG 393 - Playwriting Workshop or THE 424 - Audition Skills, THE 451 - Dramatic Theory and Criticism, 300-level design course, 3. TECHNICAL THEATRE TRACK: A designer needs to know the various collaborations necessary to the creative process. A successful designer will understand the actor's and director's process in order to successfully create and communicate his or her ideas. Practical experience and a portfolio are essentials for both the professional theatre and admission to a graduate program in technical theatre. THE 300 - Stage Management, THE 301 - Lighting Design, THE 302 - Sound Design I, THE 303 - Design Technology for the Theatre, THE 371 - Scene Design I, THE 391 - Costume Design & Construction, 300- or 400-level design/tech course.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have Cumulative secondary school GPA equivalent to a 2.3 on the US grading scale for most programs.  Other English language Requirements: TOEFL paper-based exam: 525; Successful completion of CSU's IELP (Intensive English Language Program) Advanced Level, with a grade of 80% or better and passing COMPASS ESL scores. Completion of English language studies (Level 112) from any of the ELS Language Centers. Achieve a score of C (Pass) or better on the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
