The Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil was founded on May 17, 1962. It began its first academic period with the Faculties of Jurisprudence, Philosophy and Physical and Mathematical Sciences.


In 1963, the School of Economics was created as an Academic Unit attached to the Faculty of Jurisprudence, during the Deanship of Dr. Héctor Romero Menéndez, who appointed a commission made up of the Econ. Héctor Fantoní Camba (+), Econ. Nicolás Escandón (+) and Econ. José Icaza Coronel, to design the Study Plan for the new career. The Econ was commissioned. Icaza the selection of the first professors, among them Dr. Miguel Babra Lyon, Econ. Carlos Cortez Castro, Dr. Alfredo Baquerizo Lince, Ing. Pedro Aguayo Cubillo. Subsequently, the then governing body of the University, in a session held on March 18, 1965, approved the creation of the Faculty of Economics; the first Dean was Dr. Teodoro Arízaga Vega. The new programme would last six years.


We are currently committed to training economists with the ability to understand the behavior of society when making decisions in a context of unlimited needs and scarce resources, developing multidisciplinary and global work skills in our students, and always deepening the construction of the knowledge with ethical values ​​and Christian conscience.


In the future we want to have academic and social recognition as the most important school of thought and economic training in the country, which interacts with prestigious institutions at a national and global level through the transfer of knowledge.

To be a student at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil, the applicant must comply with and approve the admission process as stated in the "Second Annex" of the Institutional Pedagogical Model, which is in harmony with the National Leveling and Admission System SNNA and that includes:

National applicants

  • Approval of the admission course or exoneration exam.
  • Application for registration in kind valued.
  • Notarized copy of the bachelor's degree or the endorsed degree certificate.
  • Color copy of the citizenship card.
  • Psychological Test obtained at the UCSG Faculty of Philosophy.
  • Three passport-size color photos;  Y
  • Certificate of conduct.

National or foreign applicants who have obtained their bachelor's degree abroad

  • Approval of the admission course or exoneration exam.
  • Application for registration in kind valued.
  • Notarized copy of the bachelor's degree abroad must be presented duly recognized by the Ministry of Public Education of Ecuador, with its corresponding endorsement.
  • Valid study visa and / residence for foreigners.
  • Color copy of the citizenship card.
  • Psychological Test obtained at the UCSG Faculty of Philosophy.
  • Three passport-size color photos
  • Certificate of conduct.

Professional applicants or have taken some courses at other higher education institutions

  • Approval of the admission course or exoneration exam.
