The Master's Degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices proposes creative and professional training, in the field of different disciplines and contents, developed in the context of fine arts and contemporary visual culture.
The interest and relevance of this Master's proposal are justified by academic, scientific and socioeconomic evidence, within the legal framework of university studies in Spain and in a particular way in relation to the degrees of the Rey Juan Carlos University, especially those Degrees in Fine Arts, in Audiovisual Communication and in Integral Design and Image Management.
The Master's Degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices is designed as an official face-to-face postgraduate course aimed at training professionals and experts in contemporary artistic creation. The curriculum provides content, skills and specialized skills in the production of artistic work in different disciplines of fine arts, with a contemporary and transversal approach, considering the current creation paradigm, which requires professional profiles with multidisciplinary training.
For this reason, the Master proposes three blocks of subjects:
  • First block: focused on knowledge. Intended to provide the student with knowledge of the contemporary art scene and current trends from a critical attitude.
  • Second block: focused on skills. Oriented to the development of skills in handling innovative media and techniques in current artistic creation.
  • Third block: focused on attitudes, where the lines and areas of creation on which art is being based in the 21st century are addressed, from a practical and personal sense of creation.

The first block has a theoretical approach and the other two blocks have a marked theoretical-practical approach, with a professional and creative character, carried out through workshops. A fourth block is oriented to the realization of an artistic project, where a complete creation process is addressed that must lead to a final personal work.
Given the professional nature of the Master, students must carry out external internships related to their professional interests and the content of the Master. These internships will reinforce your knowledge as a professional of artistic creation, providing direct experimentation in the real world of work.
The need for the Master's Degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices is justified by the tradition and context of the URJC regarding the offer of undergraduate and postgraduate studies; in the results and orientations of the White Paper on Bachelor's Degrees in Fine Arts, Design and Restoration, as well as the White Book on Bachelor's Degrees in Communication; in previous experiences of similar postgraduate degrees and in their study plans, at the national level; in experiences at the international level; in the potential demand for the title; and, finally, in the adaptation of the proposal to the socioeconomic characteristics of its area of influence.
