The German-French Master's Degree in History (Heidelberg and Paris) is a research-oriented, international degree programme that provides students with the opportunity to gain a fully valid double degree from two of the most renowned research institutions for history in France and Germany.
One of the main goals of the programme is for students to acquire an independent, reflected and methodological approach to a variety of nationally shaped discipline cultures in history. This is predominantly achieved by raising awareness for the various research traditions and establishing direct contact with the various research departments. The most significant focus of the degree programme is on the finalization of the long-term research project in which students learn about bilingual scientific practice and become familiarized with the use of relevant aids such as archives and libraries. Students will improve their knowledge of the language and their intercultural competencies due to the experiences gained during a binational academic programme, the international research practice and the mobility period. Thanks to the knowledge and skills gained during the Master’s degree programme, students will be able to pursue international careers in teaching and research as well as in a number of other professions.

Admission Requirements
An above-average first degree (BA, License) with 2.0/Mention Bien or better
Very good knowledge of both languages of instruction of the study program: French and German (level B2-C1, independent use of language). Slight deficits can be compensated for by participating in intensive language courses in the first study phase
BA degree in History or a degree program with at least 50% History, but at least 70 ECTS credits from courses with a historical focus
Depending on the focus of the compulsory elective area, very good knowledge of another modern foreign language (modern times), good knowledge of Latin (Middle Ages) or knowledge of Latin and Greek (antiquity) as a prerequisite
