Chemistry is primarily an experimental science which considers the development, characteristics and transformation of matter.
Building on the Bachelor’s degree programme 50% in Chemistry with a teaching degree option, the specialised knowledge acquired will be expanded and strengthened. Further focus is placed on specialised didactics and chemistry experiments to be used in schools.
Graduates of the Chemistry degree programme component will have gained competencies that include the following:
possession of practicable specialist knowledge in chemistry that allows them to comprehend current research in chemistry.
the ability fo record and evaluate information about chemistry in the context of its application and the interrelationships that exist within chemistry.
the ability to identify key issues that allow them to structure the different areas of chemistry, to use crosslinking to connect these areas, and to make these relevant for school chemistry and its development.
knowledge of essential working and information-gathering methods in chemistry and guidelines for safe experimentation.
possession of practicable didactic knowledge of chemistry on the basis of up-to-date research, especially fundamental knowledge of the findings from chemistry-related teaching-learning research.
the ability, on the basis of their specialised knowledge, to design and evaluate curriculum concepts and media in the area of chemistry.
