Sociology is the science of social action in specific consideration of institutional conditionalities and effects. It is in equal parts a theory-driven as well as an empirical discipline.
The Master’s degree programme in sociology aligns with international standards to provide students with an advanced-level training course in sociology. Enrollment on the course requires that students have previously completed an undergraduate degree. The Master’s degree programme focuses on the sociological analysis of institutions, on the basis of grounded theory and methods.
We encourage our students to engage with scientific work by providing project-based research seminars and classes. In addition to completing mandatory course components, students are able to develop an area of specialisation in a sub-field of sociology which reflects the research conducted at the Max Weber Institute for Sociology.
The course prepares students to work independently to address research questions within the field of sociology, and to revise and develop academic publications. In addition, they acquire key skills for a range of professional roles. Upon successful completion of the Master’s degree programme, students gain a professional graduate qualification. They will be competent, independent problem-solvers in their chosen career, able simultaneously, to assume social responsibility.
