The degree programme in Slavic and Eastern European Studies focusses on the languages, literature, and history of the Slavic countries from a cultural studies and interdisciplinary perspective.
At Heidelberg University, students may pursue Slavic and Eastern European Studies with a variety of specialisations. This permits students to design their Master’s degree studies in such a way that they are tailored to their own special interests. Literary Studies, Linguistics, East European History or a combination of two of these fields may be chosen as a focus. As a part of the programme, two Slavic languages of the student’s choice may be combined. Selection may be made from the following East, West, and Southern Slavic languages: Russian, Polish, Czech, Serbo-Croatian and Bulgarian. As an exception, students who pursue a specialisation in Eastern European History will not select two languages of their choice. They are required to take Russian as one of the Slavic languages to be studied.
