If you are interested in working with individuals with communication differences or disorders, the  Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders  could be your first step toward a career in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.

Learn

In Communication Sciences and Disorders, you will obtain knowledge and develop skills related to human communication and communication disorders. You will need a graduate degree to practice in the fields of Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology, but our undergraduate program will give you the foundation you need for your graduate studies.

Opportunities

You will have the opportunity to: 1) meet peers in the major, gain new skills; and learn more about the professions by participating in EMU’s chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA); 2) participate in the Undergraduate Research Symposium; and, 3) compete for a prestigious Brehm Scholarship. Most Communication Sciences and Disorders graduates pursue graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology.

Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association issues Certificates of Clinical Competence to individuals who present satisfactory evidence of their ability to provide independent clinical services to persons who have disorders of communication (speech, language, and/or hearing). An individual who meets these requirements may be awarded a Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology or in Audiology, depending upon the emphasis of his or her preparation.
