The doctoral program aims to:

strengthening critical thinking and acquiring skills in approaching scientific sources and their authentic interpretation, through successful, modern methods of analyzing their content providing doctoral candidates with important tools for conducting original work, which will contribute to research to strengthen and promote the science of theology, education and culture the study of the history and tradition of the place and the monuments, with the aim of highlighting their importance for cultural continuity in the present and the future examining the economic crisis and contemporary challenges, for example in the context of Bioethics, but also in the role of church ministry in relation to it the study of sources, but also in research on inter-Orthodox, inter-Christian and inter-religious dialogues

Admission Requirements

Selection criteria for doctoral candidates

Doctoral candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  1. A domestic or foreign recognized equivalent university degree and detailed academic transcript
  2. Postgraduate Diploma from a domestic university or a recognized postgraduate degree from a foreign university and detailed academic transcript
  3. Certificate of excellent knowledge of the English language and/or another foreign language. Excellent knowledge of the foreign language is certified as follows:


a) by submitting a recognized certificate of foreign language proficiency

b) by a higher education degree from a foreign University



For foreign doctoral candidates who do not hold a degree or postgraduate title from a Greek University, a prerequisite is the possession of a certificate in the Greek language, provided that Greek is determined as the language of writing their doctoral thesis.

Doctoral candidates who do not hold a bachelor's or master's degree in Theology are required, during the first year of doctoral studies, to attend thematic modules relevant to the research subject from the Graduate Studies Program of the Department of Theology in order to enhance their theological knowledge.
