Aims

The aim of the program is to provide students with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles governing sports performance, physical education, exercise and health and physical activity.

Objectives

The main objectives of this programme are to:

  • Educate students in the disciplines of sports sciences.
  • Develop their intellectual capacity and their ability to academically communicate with other sports scientists.
  • Encourage independent analytical and critical judgment.
  • Prepare graduates to lead and develop sports sciences and related areas.
  • Prepare students for relevant postgraduate studies.
  • Promote life-long sports participation culture.
  • Promote sports science research.

In addition, students who will choose coaching as a minor will be able to:

  • understand the roles and responsibilities of a coach
  • develop athletes and improve their overall performance
  • effectively condition athletes by providing concepts and principles that can assist in generating possibilities and identifying actions for the individual or the team
  • ensure a safe coaching environment and deal safely with injuries
  • work with exercise physiology, sports medicine and other relevant personnel in order to plan and monitor training and fitness of the athletes

The programme has both an academic (theoretical and practical) skills and a sports science market orientation. It focuses on studying and analyzing the latest trends and developments in the sports science and physical education academia. Consequently, it is targeting students who intend to pursue post-graduate studies in the relevant area, as well as, those who may wish to immediately enter the sports science and physical education job market following graduation.

Academic Admission

The minimum admission requirement to an undergraduate programme of study is a recognized High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or equivalent internationally recognized qualification(s). Students with a lower HSLC grade than 7.5/10 or 15/20 or equivalent depending on the grading system of the country issuing the HSLC are provided with extra academic guidance and monitoring during the first year of their studies.

English Language Proficiency

The list below provides the minimum English Language Requirements (ELR) for enrollment to the programme of study. Students who do not possess any of the qualifications or stipulated grades listed below and hold IELTS with 4.5 and above, are required to take UNIC’s NEPTON English Placement Test (with no charge) and will receive English Language support classes, if and as needed, from UNIC’s International Gateway Centre (IGC).

  • Computer-based TOEFL – 193 and above
  • Internet-based TOEFL – 80 and above
  • IELTS – 6 and above
  • Cambridge Exams [First Certificate] – B and above

  • Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE) Michigan Language Assessment by: Cambridge Assessment English & University of Michigan – 650 average score for ALL skills and above
