The aim of the program is to enable students to acquire a first degree in law which would allow them to be admitted to the legal profession or to work as a legal consultant by developing skills and abilities pertinent to a lawyer, such as problem solving, critical thinking, self-motivation and specialized knowledge of the law.

Objectives:

To provide students with a sound understanding of the foundations and socio-legal environment of law and to enable them to develop their analytical and research skills To provide students with a critical understanding and a specialized knowledge of a wide range of core courses in law, as well as the opportunity to study law from an extensive catalogue of optional subjects, covering the entire range of legal knowledge To expose students to a wide range of disciplinary approaches to legal study, encouraging them to reflect on the complexity of legal practice and of the variety of ways of understanding law’s role in contemporary society.

The undergraduate Law program at UNIC is designed to follow international guidelines in the field of legal science. Graduates of the Law Program will be fully prepared to obtain a license to practice as a Lawyer, Notary, Bailiff in Greece and to enter postgraduate programs. Our program provides a solid theoretical foundation for students to succeed in postgraduate studies pursuing specialized master’s or doctoral programs. Our graduates can also continue postgraduate studies, as is often the case, in other fields, such as International Relations, Business Administration.

In addition to practicing professions that require obtaining a Law degree in Greece or continuing their studies at a law school, graduates will be able to pursue other careers such as:

Possibility of working in International Organizations, EU institutions, but also in NGOs that deal with subjects that require good knowledge of fields of legal science, such as NGOs that have as their object of action the management of migratory flows.

Admission Requirements

The minimum admission requirement for an Undergraduate (1st Cycle/Bachelor’s) Degree is a recognised High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or equivalent internationally recognized qualifications.

Students with a lower than 7.5/10 or 15/20 or equivalent, HSLC grade depending on the grading system of the country issuing the HSLC, are provided with extra academic guidance and monitoring during the first year of their studies.

Furthermore, applicants eligible for admission to undergraduate programmes under the Greek legal framework, which establishes minimum admission criteria, include:

a) Greek or foreign nationals holding a General High School Diploma (ΓΕ.Λ.) or a Vocational High School Diploma (ΕΠΑ.Λ.) with an average grade in the four (4) nationwide examination subjects equal to or greater than the minimum admission threshold. This threshold is determined by multiplying the lowest average grade among all examinees within a given scientific field by a coefficient of 0.8 in the year of participation.

b) Holders of equivalent secondary education diplomas from recognized foreign schools in Greece (level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework).

c) Holders of international secondary education diplomas issued by schools in Greece or abroad, foreign nationals with an equivalent high school diploma, or an equivalent vocational education qualification granting them the right to access higher education institutions in the country where they studied.

d) For graduates mentioned in point (a) before the academic year 2021-2022, as well as holders of a first-cycle degree, the terms and conditions for selection and admission are set by the parent institution (University of Nicosia) as outlined in the first paragraph of section 1.2.

Proficiency in Greek Language

A prerequisite for the enrollment of students in programmes of study offered in the Greek language is a good knowledge of Greek. This can be demonstrated by a B2 level certificate from the Center for the Teaching of Greek as a Foreign Language, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, B2 Proficiency Certificate from the School of Modern Greek Language, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, or B2 Level Certificate from the Center for the Greek Language (Ministry of Education, Greece).

This certificate is not required if:

1) if the student holds a secondary education diploma from a Greek or Cypriot school, 2) or if the student holds a secondary education diploma from a foreign school from which it is evident that the student has successfully studied and been examined in the Greek language.
