The program is aimed at Bachelor of Psychology graduates interested in working in the applied branch of educational psychology, also known as school psychology. This field focuses on identifying barriers to student learning (for example learning difficulties, socio-emotional or behavioural problems in students) and implementing interventions to help overcome them. The main role of school psychologists as practitioners is to provide services to children, youth, and families within the context of educational settings in order to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments. Therefore, a central aim of the program is to train students in the application of clinical principles and the use of standardized instruments for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of behavioral problems, emotional problems and/or learning disabilities, as well as counseling students and parents.

The program requires students to complete Practicum in School Psychology. Practicum leads to the achievement of the final goal, namely School Psychologists able to enroll on the Licensed Psychologists’ Register of the Republic of Cyprus. Through Practicum I and Practicum II students have the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed through the academic program, under supervision by licensed professionals. During practicum placements students are expected to complete at least 1000 hours of supervised practicum so that the criteria set by the legislation for professional psychologists are fulfilled and they are eligible to receive Licensure as School Psychologists (see. Περί Εγγραφής Επαγγελματιών Ψυχολόγων Νόμος).

Career Prospects
Graduates of the program have a wealth of options regarding employment prospects. Graduates will acquire knowledge and practical skills in the use and evaluation of diagnostic tests (e.g. intelligence tests, various learning difficulties tests and school achievement tests), in the writing of psychoeducational evaluation reports, in the design and implementation of prevention and intervention programs programs), as well as student counseling. On completion of the program, which includes a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised practice in schools, graduates will be able to register as professional school psychologists on the Cyprus Register of Psychologists and work in schools and/or in private practice.

Access to further studies
Graduates of the program will also be able to pursue doctoral studies. The design of the program provides for these students, through the completion of a Master’s Thesis. Through pursuing a Master’s Thesis, students will have the opportunity to work on a substantial research project and will thus be in an advantageous position to be accepted into PhD programs.
