The course is aimed at a wide range of people from both the UK and abroad, from NHS and non-NHS backgrounds including those in primary or secondary care, health authorities and primary care trusts, nursing and professions related to medicine, health promotion, health care research, health management and anyone wishing to develop a career in public health. Students will take six 20 credit core modules and the dissertation. The full-time route can be completed over one year, part-time can be completed within two years and by distance learning can be completed between 15 months and two years.

A 1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours degree within a health related field or equivalent e.g. medicine, dentistry, nursing/health visiting, environmental health, occupational health, pharmacy, or any other degree deemed appropriate by the award team; any 'non-standard' qualification judged by the award team to be equivalent of the above (e.g. a relevant professional qualification or public health related experience) would warrant admission to the programme, successful completion of which will enable transfer to the Master's Award (the same conditions will apply to candidates offering a non Honours degree); in exceptional circumstances, and after a satisfactory interview with the award leader and/or course team, we would accept a minimum of 3 years experience at a senior level in a public health or related field.
