This Social Care and Health Studies course offers an insight into social care, health and wellbeing. Students will study and critically analyse current issues in contemporary society and the impact these issues have on people’s lives. They will develop their understanding of the impact of social deprivation and poor health on national and international economies. Year 1 looks at the social groups most likely to need social care services. It offers a comprehensive study of how social care and health services are organised. Students will consider a wide range of perspectives on health matters and contrast holistic health frameworks together with perspectives on Social Care and inequalities. Year 2 combines knowledge with skills and looks at concepts in providing social care services and addressing key determinants of poor health. It examines poverty and social exclusion, and explores the policy and legislation surrounding support services. Students will learn to assess the health needs of the population and further explore your research skills and knowledge. The final year encourages the development of analytical skills to compare the provision and delivery of social care within European states and to further explore quality care and support services. Students will also learn to plan and evaluate health promotion, to research population health, and explore global health issues.
