A mental health nurse cares for patients with common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and obsessive-compulsive states. Mental health nurses help patients to overcome their ill health, or to come to terms with it, so they can lead as normal a life as possible. Severe and enduring mental health problems such as schizophrenia affect about one in 200 people each year. This course is recognized by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for the purpose of registration as a qualified nurse (mental health).
