In 1958, National Chiao Tung University established Taiwan's first electronics research institute on Boai Street in Hsinchu City, ushering in high-tech education in Taiwan. In 1964, the Department of Electronic Engineering was established, recruiting undergraduate students. The Department of Automatic Control Engineering and the Department of Communications Engineering were established in 1955 and 1966, respectively, laying the foundation for the development of Taiwan's electronics and information technology industry. To cultivate more high-level research talent in electrical engineering, the Institute of Telecommunications Engineering and the Institute of Control Engineering were established in 1979 and 1981, respectively. In 1994, the first College of Electrical and Computer Engineering was established, which was later transferred to the College of Electrical Engineering. To prepare for the future cross-disciplinary integration of electrical and electronic technology, in 2009, the undergraduate departments of Telecommunications and Control Engineering were merged into the Department of Electrical Engineering. Starting in the 2011 academic year, the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Bachelor's Program in Electrical Engineering were integrated, making it the largest university electrical engineering department in Taiwan in terms of faculty and student enrollment. To develop the field of biomedical electronics, the Institute of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2008 and transferred to the College of Electrical Engineering in 2013, officially joining the ranks of university electrical engineering departments. The integrated Department of Electrical Engineering covers 15 distinctive areas of complete electrical engineering information, aiming to cultivate elites with cross-domain research capabilities and broaden students' future career paths.
