The Department of Finance at National Yang-Ming National Chiao Tung University, founded in 2004 as Taiwan's first department dedicated to financial technology (Fintech), was established by the College of Management, taking advantage of the trend of digital economic development. The Department of Finance at National Yang-Ming National Chiao Tung University focuses on cultivating financial professionals with IT capabilities and information management professionals with basic financial knowledge.
In recent years, the increasing digitization of finance and the rise of the stay-at-home economy have led to a significant increase in demand for contactless digital financial services, especially in the wake of the pandemic, when online financial transactions became even more important. This trend has created a need in the financial market for professionals with a comprehensive understanding of both finance and information technology, such as information security, data privacy, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis. The Department of Finance at National Yang-Ming National Chiao Tung University is a leader in the application of digital financial technology in Taiwan, focusing on finance and information technology to cultivate cross-disciplinary talent with expertise in both fields. In recent years, the Department of Finance at National Yang-Ming National Chiao Tung University has been featured and featured in numerous mainstream media outlets, including CommonWealth Magazine, Liberty Times, United Daily News, China Times, Finance, Mirror Weekly, and Universal Radio, establishing its position as a popular university department within both its Category 1 (Finance) and Category 2 (Asset Management) departments.
The Department's operations align with the "Fintech Development Roadmap" promoted by the Financial Supervisory Commission in 2010. Furthermore, the Department's focus on cultivating talent in the development of financial technology aligns with the Ministry of Education's goal of promoting cross-disciplinary ICT digital talent over the next decade.
The Department established a master's program in 2002, enrolling its first class of master's students.
The undergraduate program of the Department of Finance was established in 2004, enrolling its first class of bachelor's students.
The in-service program was established in 2005, enrolling its first class of working students. The doctoral program was established in 2007, enrolling its first class of doctoral students.
