The Public Health Nursing Thesis Master's Program within the Department of Nursing was deemed appropriate to be opened by the Higher Education Executive Board at its meeting dated 12.01.2022 and will start education as of the Fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. This program, which is based on the National Core Education Program for Nursing, is based on theoretical and practical education. Public Health Nursing is a special field within the nursing profession and generally focuses on the physical, biological, socio-cultural environment, and differs from the perspective of other hospitals and health institutions in this respect. Public health nurses provide community-oriented services in health institutions as well as at home, at school, at work, in prison, in the clinic where the healthy person is monitored, in other community areas, in short, wherever there are people. The areas of expertise in Public Health Nursing are defined in the nursing regulation as “Home Care Nurse”, “Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Center Nurse”, “Community Mental Health Center Nurse”, “Occupational Health Nurse”, “School Health Nurse” and “Prison and Detention Nurse”. Public Health Nurse refers to a nurse who has graduated by completing a master's degree in this field and is responsible for fulfilling the roles and responsibilities determined by the regulation. The purpose of this program is to train scientific experts who have professional nursing awareness, are sensitive to the health problems and care needs of individuals, families and communities at national and international levels, can access and evaluate information on basic nursing-specific issues and the concepts, models / theories, principles and methods on which they are based, can conduct scientific research, can transfer the knowledge and skills gained to the field of practice and nursing education, and can use teaching principles and methods in the field of public health nursing. Those who complete this program are also eligible to apply to the Public Health Nursing Doctorate program.
