With the solving of the DNA model in 1953, studies in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics gained great importance. These studies have accelerated and increased with the developing technology and methods in the following years. The research areas of this field include solving the molecular pathology of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Parkinson's, which are frequently seen today, personalized treatment and gene therapy, living development, the use of microorganisms in biotechnology, understanding biological systems and analysis of the genetic structures of species.
Ahi Evran University Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was established in 2016 and has two departments: Molecular Biology and Genetics. The department started offering undergraduate education in the 2017-2018 academic year. The first year of the undergraduate program includes introductory courses in molecular biology and genetics in order to provide students with a scientific background. In the following years, in addition to compulsory courses such as molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology, genetics and laboratory techniques, there are also elective courses in fields such as gerontology, toxicology, forensic genetics, pharmacogenetics and cancer biology.
This department aims to train experts in molecular biology and genetics, which are needed in different fields such as medicine, agriculture and industry. After graduation, students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics can work as academicians in universities, biomedical and biotechnology institutions, molecular biology and genetics laboratories, genetic diagnosis and in vitro fertilization centers, etc. They will be able to find employment in these fields.
The academic staff of our department consists of 3 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 2 Drs. It consists of a faculty member and 2 research assistants. There are 4 research laboratories in our department. In research laboratories; Studies are carried out in the fields of animal cytogenetics, cancer genetics, toxicogenetics, RNA biology and epigenetics, drug development in cancer, stem cells, and molecular fungal taxonomy.
