Geology, derived from the words Geo (Earth) and Logos (Science), in general terms; Physical and chemical properties of rocks forming the Earth, internal and external deteriorations over billions of years, structures such as faults and layers formed as a result of this change and the distribution of formation wealth, reserves and geometry formed depending on these structures, use as the basic material of engineering structures. In this case, it is a professional discipline that reveals the methods and techniques of determining geo-engineering applications of rocks. Like all living things, humans are also a part of the Earth. The Earth is present in every detail of our lives. The necessary materials for all structures from houses to roads and dams, all our vital needs, nutrients, energy and mineral resources are provided by the Earth. Geological damages - earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, storms, landslides, mass extinctions seen in living things - can always experience us. In order to be ready for this reality, the Earth needs to be understood better. Throughout their studies, people have tried to understand why and how natural events in the environment they live in occur. Every answer found with scientific thoughts has gradually enlightened human thoughts and thus instead of examining events such as earthquakes and floods as a punishment given by supernatural powers, it was possible to find the protection forms of comprehensive research that made them happen. The Geological Engineering Department aims to carry out studies that can take part in the emergence and expansion of features related to complex geological situations in the region and Turkey, the regulation and operation of existing natural resources, the initiation of the site selection process of various electrical projects, the pre-explosion of various electrical problems that occur during and after their construction, the recognition of natural events, the investigation of their causes and the solution of them, the identification of problems (e.g. environmental pollution) that arise due to rapid population growth together with urbanization, management and industrial activities.
