This program is designed for students who wish to earn an early childhood teaching certificate to work with children from birth through grade three. The requirements for the Illinois Type 04 early childhood teaching certificate are integrated with the program. With the addition of an elective, students are also eligible for the Early Childhood Special Education approval. The program is ideal for students who do not have an undergraduate major in education, but who aspire to transform schools and classrooms in pursuit of social justice. The Early Childhood Education program prepares individuals to work with children from birth through grade three. The goal of the program is to develop reflective, problem-solving and decision-making professionals. Applicants must have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in all or the last half of the undergraduate program. Other English language Requirements: Minimum scores required on the TOEFL are 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based) along with 4.5 or higher on the essay score of TOEFL.
