In addition to the math major, concentrations are offered in statistics and secondary education. The study of mathematics provides training in disciplined thought and analysis. Mathematicians create new theories and techniques using the latest technology and solve economic, scientific, engineering, and business problems using mathematical knowledge and computational tools. In this program, students will focus on secondary education concentration. Requirements for a major in mathematics leading to the BS degree consist of the core and elective mathematics courses listed below along with an additional course sequence within education. In addition, a minor or a supporting sequence of at least 15 semester hours in a science is required. Approved areas for the BS degree are: biology, chemistry, computer science, data analytics, physical science, physics, and psychology. A total of at least 60 semester hours in actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences, or psychology is required.
