Are you interested in becoming an Egyptologist? Would you like to dedicate your life to the study of Ancient Egypt, do fieldwork in the Nile valley or conduct other professional activities related to the ancient land of the Pharaohs?
The objective of the UAB master's degree in Egyptology is to train professional Egyptologists, both in the academic and research field and in the archaeological field and other professional activities (museums, cultural tourism, publishing houses, heritage management, dissemination, etc.).
The programme consists of 120 credits, distributed into eleven modules offered over the span of two academic years. Five of these modules are dedicated to language studies, another five contain historical and cultural contents, and the eleventh module corresponds to the Final Master Thesis. Lectures can be taken on-site or remotely, and the programme also includes a wide range of mobility programmes (museums and academic institutions around the world and archaeological activities in Egypt). All lectures are offered in Spanish.
There are a total of 20 places for students interested in enrolling in the on-site modality, while another 10 are available for those interested in studying online, in particular among international students. Students may also enrol in the master's degree as full-time students, and complete the programme in two years, or as part-time students, by enrolling in modules during a four-year period in order to be able to combine work and studying.
The master's degree offers the possibility of choosing one of two specialisations: the research specialisation allows graduates to continue onto a PhD programme, so that those who wish to can develop their doctoral thesis on issues related to Egyptology. The UAB offers a PhD programme in Studies in Antiquity and the Middle Ages, which includes a line of research in Egyptology and Ancient Oriental Studies.
