This is an interuniversity Master's degree that offers a comprehensive education by combining the resources and academic excellence of the four participating universities (UAB, UPC, UB and URV), with years of experience in training and research in semiconductor engineering and microelectronic design, and with the strategic participation of the Barcelona Microelectronics Institute at the the National Microelectronics Centre (IMB-CNM) belonging to CSIC, a leading centre in microelectronic technology. The Master's degree is coordinated by the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering at the UPC.
Semiconductor and microelectronics technology is a fundamental cornerstone in of today's world, as it is the basis for electronic devices that make communication, computing, medicine and many other aspects of today's society possible. In view of the growing demand for highly qualified professionals in this field, this master's degree has been designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to face the technological challenges of the future.
The programme covers a wide range of subjects and offers two specialisations. The Semiconductor Engineering specialisation trains students in the use of microelectronic chip technology in different areas, such as clean room manufacturing, encapsulation, characterisation and reliability, and emerging technologies. The Microelectronic Design specialisation aims to provide training in the design of digital and analogue microelectronic circuits and systems integrated into advanced technology. Training in semiconductor and microelectronics manufacturing and design in a single Master's degree is one of the distinguishing features of the programme.
You will have access to laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology and will be able to participate in innovative research projects at each of the universities. One of these laboratories is the Integrated Micro and Nanofabrication Clean Room at IMB-CNM, a unique scientific and technical facility (ICTS) of 1,500 square metres located on the UAB campus. This will provide you with a unique opportunity to enter the world of microelectronic technologies from a more practical and applied perspective.
In addition, the programme offers you opportunities for professional work placements in technological companies to boost your employability and at the same time meet the growing demand in the microelectronics industry.
