The PhD in Romance Langauges and Cultures aims to culminate in doctoral theses that have as their object of study metalinguistics or linguistics applied to productions in at least one Romance language, in contrast to or in combination with other langauges (obviously including other Romance languages). Students will work on one of the following lines of research:

  • Teaching/learning of foreign or second languages;
  • Bilingual or multilingual dictionaries;
  • Automatic translation;
  • Speech analysis and treatment;
  • Literary and cultural studies in Romance languages.
It is possible to combine two lines of research by working on subjects that are situated at the intersection of different lines or proposing realted topics that can generate leading knowledge in the ambit of linguistic applications, multilingual resources in linguistic engineering or language teaching (including self-learning) , from the formalisation of linguistic data (in the form of lexcial items, lexical or semantic networks, onthologies, etc.), linguistic mediation or intercomprehension of neighbouring languages.
