Department of Genetics and Bioengineering was established in 2009. The language of the education is Turkish. There is no requirement for English language proficiency. Currently, our department does not accept students due to the decision of the Council of Higher Education.
The primary role of genetics and bioengineering is to investigate the biological mechanisms and happenings with the help of basic scientific approaches and engineering perspectives for creating new technologies. Our department is the only genetics and bioengineering department that opened in a state university in Turkey.
Genetics and Bioengineering is a very multidisciplinary branch that consists of basic sciences such as physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, microbiology, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and some other bio-related fields like molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedical technology, molecular genetics, neurobiology, tissue engineering, bioinformatics, pharmacology,
Bioengineers work on biological systems and processes through their analytical observation, where they are utilized in biomedicine, biotechnology, genetics, and related fields. Physics and mathematics are the core disciplines of engineering that explain almost everything around us. Therefore, the students interested in studying genetics and bioengineering should have some foundation in physics, mathematics, and chemistry along with the ability to analytical thinking and intense scientific curiosity. In our curriculum, basic medical sciences with a clinical approach are also included to give more options to the student in their professional career.
