The Department of Public Relations and Publicity consists of four departments: Public Relations, Interpersonal Communication, Research Methods, Advertising and Promotion.

The Department of Public Relations and Publicity is the first department of the Faculty of Communication. The department has been receiving students and graduating students since 2009. The student occupancy rate in our department, which increases in preference every year, exceeds %100.

The Department of Public Relations is a 4 year department consisting of 8 semesters of 14 weeks each. Our department accepts students from TS-1 score type.

At the end of the 6th semester of the 4-year education period, our students have the opportunity to practice the education and training they have received until the mentioned period by doing internships in the relevant units of institutions and organizations serving in the public and private sectors.

Erasmus teaching mobility, Farabi and Mevlana exchange programs are implemented in our department.

Erasmus study mobility is a program in which students of a higher education institution spend one or two semesters of their studies in a higher education institution in a member state of the European Union within an academic year. The aim of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and strengthen the European dimension. The Erasmus program strives to achieve this goal by promoting inter-country cooperation between universities; ensuring the mutual exchange of students and educators in Europe; contributing to the development of academic recognition and transparency of studies and degrees received in the countries participating in the program. In this context, our students both benefit from the educational opportunities offered at universities in different countries and have the opportunity to develop their personal knowledge, experience and culture by observing different cultures.

The main purpose of the Farabi Exchange Program, which was established to provide student and faculty exchange between higher education institutions, is to increase interaction and student/faculty mobility in higher education. The program, which can be applied at associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, allows students and faculty members to continue their education and training in a different higher education institution for one or two semesters. Within the scope of the Farabi Exchange Program, students who are included in the program are provided with scholarships and faculty members are paid additional course payments. Faculty members and students who participate in the Farabi Exchange Program have the opportunity to improve their educational activities, expand their social circles and advance their career plans by being in a different academic environment. More information on the subject can be obtained from both the Farabi Exchange Program website farabi.gumushane.edu.tr within Gümüşhane University and the website https://farabi.yok.gov.tr/ prepared by the YÖK Farabi Coordination Unit.

Mevlana Exchange Program is a program that enables the exchange of students and academic staff between higher education institutions in Turkey and higher education institutions abroad. The Mevlana Exchange Program aims to make the countries participating in the program a center of attraction in the field of higher education; to increase the academic capacities of our higher education institutions; to enrich the culture of respect and understanding of differences by increasing intercultural interaction. Mevlana Exchange Program functions as an important tool of the global higher education vision. Students can benefit from the Mevlana Exchange Program for at least one semester and at most two semesters; academic staff can benefit from the Mevlana Exchange Program for at least one week and at most three months for one time in an academic year. With the Mevlana Exchange Program, it is important for both students and faculty members to have the opportunity to be in different geographies and cultures in order to gain a broader and deeper perspective. More information about the Mevlana Exchange Program can be access at https://mevlana.yok.gov.tr/ and http://mevlana.gumushane.edu.tr/tr/.

In our department, our students also have the opportunity to double major in different faculties with which our department has an agreement if they meet the necessary conditions while continuing their education. Thus, our students can qualify for a double diploma by graduating from another department at the same time as the Public Relations and Publicity department.

Apart from these, our students, who continue their active education in the department, also have the chance to put the courses they have been trained in into practice by working voluntarily in various units of the Media Center within our faculty. Our students who work in the aforementioned unit participate in various national and international competitions and receive many awards. For example, our students Rukiye Batak, Zekeriya Eltimur, Kaan Kara, İsmet Şimşek from the Public Relations and Publicity department were awarded in the "Young Communicators Category" at the 18th Golden Compass Turkey Public Relations Awards, which is a very prestigious competition directly related to the field of Public Relations and made our department and faculty proud. Other award information can be found on the relevant department's website http://medyamerkezi.gumushane.edu.tr/tr/.

Students who graduate from the Department of Public Relations and Publicity have the chance to find jobs in advertising and public relations agencies, political and corporate consulting companies, media planning and purchasing companies, non-governmental organizations, agencies and all companies in the sector; in short, public relations specialist, corporate communication specialist, media relations specialist and brand manager in public and private sector institutions and organizations.
